VPIM is inherently a non-real-time protocol. Asking the question "can the
downstream messaging system tell the upstream messaging system to stop
recording because the mailbox is full" is not within the scope of VPIM.

The downstream system can (outside of VPIM) tell the upstream system that
it's full.

VPIM does deal with the case that the upstream system records a message that
the downstream system cannot accept. However, that's after the fact.

Subject: [VPIM] Overflow??

How does VPIM handle overflows? For example if you have a full mail box and
you can't store any more information, can you stop the recording or notify
the incoming line to hault, with an error message? If it's a legacy voice
mail system forwarding to another collective mail box, is there some way to
send an MM or to notify the legacy system that the mail box is full? Can
VPIM store a MM in my Mail box? What are the bandwidth requirements?

Ben Davis
