Exchange 2000 Server supports VPIM 2. You can visit
http://www.ema.org/vpim/conformance/results/ex2000.html for conformance
and interop details. VPIM support in Exchange 2000 Server is implemented
as two transport event sinks, which are turned on by setting a couple of
variables in the Active Directory. There is no need to upgrade your
Exchange 2000 Server installation.

Exchange 2000 Server does not, however, support the VPIM Directory
drafts.

Charles

PS Some details:

The two Active Directory attributes are called
"msExchVPIMConvertInbound" and "msExchVPIMConvertOutbound". They are on
the msExchExchangeServer object representing your server. A typical LDAP
path to a server object might look like this:

LDAP://myserver.tuva.extest.microsoft.com/
CN=MYSERVER,CN=Servers,CN=First Administrative Group,
CN=Administrative Groups,CN=MyOrganization,CN=Microsoft
Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,
DC=tuva,DC=extest,DC=microsoft,DC=com

Subject: [VPIM] Regarding an Enquiry about VPIM

Dear Sir,

i'm a software engineer working in Mascon communication
Technologies(Chennai-India). We are developing UMS prototype. We would
like to develop our application with VPIM conformance. But i didnt have
much knowledge about the implementation of VPIM. I read the whitepapers
and articles from EMA website. If you could help me to identify the
requirements to implement VPIM, it would be of great use for our
development. Looking forward for your esteemed reply.

Some details that i want to know.

Is it enough to add Directory services with our existing Exchange server
if it is VPIM conformant. If our Exchange server doesnt support VPIM,
what should i do to upgrade it?
What are all the components involved in implementing VPIM?

Thanks & Regards,
Aziz.
