There is an open item in the VPIM LDAP schema document that I would like to
reach closure upon. The character set of the vPIMTextName attribute is
undefined. I propose that the character set should be IA5 text.
The intent of this attribute is to represent the textual identity of a
subscriber as used in the existing telephony network.
This identity is used in a number of ways including:
1) The "Caller id" name provided at call setup time
2) The "display name" on PBX phones
3) The "dial-by-name" or "Address-by-name" string used in voice mail
machines.
Best I can tell, this attribute is primarily used in North America, with
limited use in ETSI countries.
The usage of this attribute is distinct from the CN attribute in other LDAP
schema's.
Does anybody have additional `information about usages that we should know
about?
