Eric,
One comment - with the increasing promotion of picture messages by Nokia
and others, SMS is fast being considered more than a text protocol (and it
has not been limited to text data for some time).
In addition, of course, SMS has been used programmatically for some time
(e.g. Over the Air Provisioning) and this usage is likely to expand in
future.
So, you could either extend your definition to embrace these, or rule one
or both of them out of context via a tighter definition of "pager
messages" - in which case I think this is worth doing so explicitly.
Also, you write:
> Currently, the most common use of pager messages are between just two
parties (one-to-one).
I think it is worth also pointing out the applicability of pager messages
for notifications and alerts - after all one of the original application
for SMS was to inform users of waiting voicemail messages (which is an
interesting example in this context). You could continue the paragraph
above with something like:
... Pager messages are also often used as a way of alerting users to
something needing their attention - for example to notify them that there
is a voicemail message requiring their attention.
